Our median learner is on a four-year-old Android phone with 3GB of RAM and a data pack they are careful with. Every kilobyte and every re-render is a real cost to a real student. If you have ever wanted an engineering problem where performance work is obviously worth doing rather than a nice-to-have, this is it.
The lesson player: video, transcript, inline quizzes and progress sync, all of which must survive the connection dropping in the middle of a chapter. Alongside it, the practice-test experience, which has to feel instant even when a student answers forty questions in six minutes.
You will work with two other frontend engineers, a designer and the content team. Content sits in the same reviews as engineering, so you will hear directly when something you built confuses a fifteen-year-old.
Two to five years of React, an instinct for semantic HTML and accessible markup, and real curiosity about what happens between a tap and a paint. You do not need prior EdTech experience. You do need to care that the app works on a bad connection in a small town, because that is who uses it.
Sarvam Learning delivers exam preparation for state board and competitive exams in seven Indian languages. Most learners open the app on a phone that cost under ten thousand rupees, often on a shared data plan, so every megabyte we ship is a decision someone had to defend.
We build alongside our teachers. Content, product and engineering sit in the same review, and a lesson that confuses students gets pulled the same week. Learning outcomes, not session time, are the metric we are judged on.
The team is based in Guindy, Chennai, and about a third of engineering works fully remote.
