Context
MailerMen runs seven Node.js services behind one gateway, and they talk to each other rather more than we would like. Over three months you work with the platform team on the pieces that sit between those services instead of inside any single one.
Concretely
You will build a shared request context library so a trace id survives every hop, replace three hand rolled HTTP clients with one that has timeouts and retries configured properly, and add health and readiness endpoints that mean something rather than returning 200 forever. Logging gets consistent field names because you gave it them. There is a genuine incident review every month and you are in the room for all of them.
What we expect, and what you get
You should know Node.js well enough to explain the event loop in your own words, and be able to read code you did not write without flinching. No professional experience is required and none is assumed. In return: a mentor from the platform team, two office days a week in Delhi NCR, and a strong chance of a full time offer if the three months go well. Interns here are treated as engineers, not as observers.
Responsibilities
- Build a shared request context library so trace ids survive every service hop
- Replace three ad hoc HTTP clients with one that has sane timeouts and retries
- Implement health and readiness endpoints that reflect real dependency state
- Add structured logging with consistent field names across the Node.js services
- Attend monthly incident reviews and write up one follow up action yourself
- Test cross service behaviour with Jest and a local docker compose environment
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate; professional experience is not required
- Able to explain the Node.js event loop in your own words
- Comfortable reading unfamiliar code and tracing a request across many files
- Familiar with HTTP semantics, retries and the idea of a timeout budget
- Present in the Delhi NCR office two days a week
