The containerisation backlog

Three of our services still deploy by copying a build folder onto a server and restarting a process manager. That is the backlog you are joining to clear. Across three months in Hyderabad you will containerise them properly, starting with the notifications worker and finishing with the resume parsing service.

What that involves

You will write multi stage Dockerfiles that keep the final image small, replace our ad hoc shell scripts with docker compose for local development, and get every engineer running the same Postgres and Redis versions. From there you will move the workloads onto a managed Kubernetes cluster: deployments, services, config maps, secrets pulled from a vault, liveness and readiness probes tuned to each service. You will also write the Helm chart that packages all of it, and you will be the one who explains it to the rest of the team in a walkthrough at the end.

Learning setup

This is an unpaid position and we are honest about what that means: you get a real cluster, a real mentor, weekly one to one reviews of your manifests, and work you can point at in an interview. Final year students and recent graduates are welcome, no prior industry experience expected.

Responsibilities

  • Write multi stage Dockerfiles for the notifications worker and resume parsing service
  • Replace local setup shell scripts with a single docker compose file for the whole team
  • Pin Postgres and Redis versions so every developer machine matches staging
  • Author Kubernetes manifests covering deployments, services, config maps and secrets
  • Tune liveness and readiness probes so rolling updates do not drop requests
  • Package the workloads as a Helm chart and demo it to the engineering team

Requirements

  • Final year student or recent graduate available for a hybrid schedule in Hyderabad
  • Hands on Linux command line ability from coursework or personal projects
  • Basic understanding of how a web application talks to a database
  • Curiosity about containers, with no prior industry experience expected

Skills

Benefits

  • Certificate + Letter of Recommendation
  • Access to a real managed Kubernetes cluster for the full three months
  • Weekly one to one manifest reviews with a mentor
  • A portfolio ready Helm chart you can walk through in interviews
