About the role

Meridian Gulf Digital is hiring a mobile engineer in Abu Dhabi. Mobile is where our product meets people who are standing up, in a hurry and on a connection that comes and goes. App size, cold start and offline behaviour are product decisions here, not optimisations to be done later if there is time.

Salaries in the UAE are advertised and paid MONTHLY and are free of income tax, which makes a straight comparison against an annual European or Indian figure misleading in both directions. Read the range below as what lands each month.

What the work actually looks like

You will ship features through a real release train, including staged rollouts and the occasional decision to hold a build. Alongside that comes the work that never appears on a roadmap: crash triage, startup time, and keeping the app pleasant on devices that are several years old. The role is on-site in Abu Dhabi, which is where the team and most of our customers are.

What we look for

This is a mid-level role. You should already be able to take a loosely specified problem, break it down and ship it without close supervision. We want someone who has shipped to a store and then lived with what they shipped. Native depth or serious cross-platform experience are both fine; caring about what happens between a tap and a frame is not optional.

Working at Meridian Gulf Digital

The working week runs Monday to Friday, the company sponsors employment visas for the successful candidate and their dependants, and relocation is arranged and paid for. The range shown is a MONTHLY figure, which is how this market advertises salaries — it is not an annual number.

Responsibilities

  • Build and release features through a staged rollout process
  • Own crash rate, cold-start time and app size for your area
  • Make offline and poor-connectivity behaviour a first-class part of every feature
  • Work with backend engineers on API shapes that suit a mobile client
  • Test on real low-end and older hardware, not only the newest device

Requirements

  • Shipped and maintained at least one app in a public store
  • Strong platform knowledge: lifecycle, memory, background execution
  • Comfortable with automated testing on mobile and with CI for builds
  • Experience debugging performance and crash reports from real users
  • Pragmatic about native versus cross-platform trade-offs
