Senior/Staff Software Engineer - Edge

Sage provides a care intelligence platform for senior living and skilled nursing, connecting hardware with software caregivers use.

About This Role The role involves building systems enabling edge hardware and cloud infrastructure collaboration at scale. Engineers will develop architecture for deployed device fleets, troubleshoot network/hardware/software issues, and mentor team members.

What You'll Do

• Shape architecture of edge device fleets and orchestrating cloud systems
• Investigate novel problems like fall detection and sensor fusion
• Build diagnostic tooling for remote hardware understanding
• Conduct troubleshooting across network, hardware, and software layers
• Collaborate end-to-end with other teams
• Review code, lead design discussions, mentor engineers
• Challenge approaches when better solutions exist

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years professional experience with complex backend systems
• Strong Linux/Unix proficiency beyond basic command usage
• Deep expertise in one language (Java, C++, Rust, Go, Python, C#) with solid computing fundamentals
• Working networking knowledge for reasoning about device connectivity and updates
• Demonstrable curiosity through side projects, open source, or technical hobbies
• Ability to balance complexity while shipping results

Nice to Haves

• Strong technical opinions on tools/technologies
• RF communication or embedded hardware experience
• Linux distribution customization expertise
• Edge-to-cloud architecture design experience including OTA updates
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure
