The number we want to move

Search results on mailermen.com take a little over two seconds to reach a user in Kolkata on a mid range phone, and most of that is not the database. Over two months you will work on everything between our origin server and the browser, and the goal is a number you can point at on a graph at the end.

Where you will be working

You will tune the Nginx layer: gzip and brotli compression, cache headers that actually get respected, connection keepalive, and rate limiting on the endpoints bots enjoy most. You will move static assets and uploaded company logos behind CloudFront with sensible invalidation, set up TLS renewal with certbot so nobody renews a certificate by hand again, and load test the result with k6 so the improvement is measured rather than assumed. Documenting the final config, with a comment explaining why each directive is there, is part of the job.

Terms and fit

The role is unpaid and fully remote within India, with a mentor reviewing your config changes before anything reaches production. Suitable for final year students and recent graduates who know their way around Linux and HTTP. No work experience required.
