The gap we want closed

Nobody teaches testing properly, so most backend engineers pick it up years too late. MailerMen's notification service has thirty routes and a suite that covers maybe a third of them. Across two remote months you push that number up in a way that is useful rather than cosmetic.

Day to day

You write integration tests that run against a real PostgreSQL container instead of a pile of mocks, build test factories so fixtures stop being copy pasted between files, and add contract tests for the two webhooks that partner platforms depend on. When a test you wrote catches a genuine bug, and it will happen, you fix the bug too. You will also wire the suite into CI so it finishes in under four minutes on every pull request.

Terms

This position carries no stipend, and saying that plainly seems fairer than burying it. In return you get weekly one to one mentoring, review on every pull request from the service owner, and a body of work showing that you can reason about failure and not only about features. Suitable for final year students and recent graduates with some Node.js practice and no professional experience.
