The numbers behind the job board

Every day roughly forty thousand candidates search, filter and apply on MailerMen, and almost none of that behaviour is properly measured yet. Your job over the next six months is to turn that raw event stream into answers people actually use. You will sit with the growth pod in our Koramangala office three days a week and work the rest of the week wherever you are most productive.

What you will actually do

You will start by learning the applications schema in Postgres, then rebuild the weekly funnel report that currently lives in a fragile spreadsheet nobody trusts. From there you take over a set of Metabase dashboards covering application drop off, employer response time and search to apply conversion by city. Expect to write a lot of SQL, argue about what counts as an active employer, and present one finding to the founders every fortnight.

Who this suits

You should be comfortable with joins, window functions and pivot tables, and curious enough to chase a strange number until it makes sense. No prior job experience is expected. What matters is that you can explain a result to someone who has never seen a database and does not want to.

Responsibilities

  • Rebuild the weekly application funnel report in SQL so it refreshes without manual spreadsheet work
  • Build and maintain Metabase dashboards for drop off, employer response time and search to apply conversion
  • Write and document reusable SQL queries against the Postgres applications and events schema
  • Investigate anomalies in daily active employer counts and explain what caused them
  • Present one analysis to the growth pod every two weeks with a clear recommendation
  • Maintain a shared data dictionary so metric definitions match across teams
  • Support marketing with ad hoc data pulls during peak hiring season campaigns

Requirements

  • Final year student or recent graduate in statistics, economics, engineering or another quantitative discipline
  • Working knowledge of SQL including joins, group by and window functions
  • Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets with pivot tables and lookup formulas
  • Able to explain an analysis in plain language to a non technical reader
  • Available to work from our Bengaluru office three days a week

Skills

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend paid on the first working day of each month
  • Weekly one on one review of your queries with the senior analyst
  • Internship certificate on successful completion
  • Full time offer available for interns who ship consistently
  • Hybrid schedule with three office days and two from home
