Who we wrote this for

You have finished a tutorial or two, you can build a todo app, and now you need the thing no course provides: a codebase full of other people's decisions. This two month remote placement is deliberately entry level and we will not pretend otherwise.

The two months, roughly

Week one is setup and reading. You get the MailerMen repo running locally, trace one request from a React button click through Express to MongoDB and back, and write up what you found. From week two you pick up starter tickets: a filter chip on the job search page, a validation message that never appeared, a Mongoose field missing a default. By the second month you should be taking a small feature such as the recently viewed jobs list from ticket to merge.

What is on offer and what is not

This placement is unpaid. What you do get is a mentor who answers questions, a review on your first pull request within a working day, and honest feedback about whether a developer career actually suits you. Several engineers on our team started in exactly this seat.

  • Ask questions in the open channel instead of getting stuck privately
