Accessibility and Inclusive Design Intern

The problem
A screen reader user cannot currently finish a job application on MailerMen past the resume upload step. That is a fault in our design, not in their software, and across six months you will help us fix it end to end.
What you will do
You will audit the candidate flow against WCAG 2.2 AA and log every failure with a severity rating. You will test with NVDA and VoiceOver and record what a non sighted user genuinely experiences rather than what we assume. The forms that fail get new focus order, labels, hints and error messaging written by you. Product wide colour contrast gets reworked into an accessible palette you define, and then you write the checklist every future design review runs against.
Learning and mentorship
You get weekly time with the design lead, two hours a week set aside purely for study, and sessions with a consultant who has audited public sector portals in India. The role is fully remote from anywhere in the country.
Open to final year students and recent graduates. Enthusiasm for inclusive design counts for far more than existing expertise here, because we will teach you the standards properly.
Responsibilities
- Audit the candidate application flow against WCAG 2.2 AA and log every failure with a severity rating
- Test screens with NVDA and VoiceOver and record what a non sighted user actually experiences
- Rewrite focus order, labels, hints and error messaging for the forms that fail
- Rework the product colour palette so every text and background pairing passes contrast
- Write the accessibility checklist that every design review will run against
- Run a training session for the design and frontend teams on the most common failures
- Retest fixed screens and keep a shared issue log with engineering
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate with an interest in inclusive design
- Basic Figma competence and the patience for detailed, repetitive checking
- Willingness to learn WCAG properly, which we support with time and materials
- Clear written English for audit notes and documentation
- No professional experience required
