Java Developer Internship for Final Year Students

Two months, unpaid, fully remote, and built around a college calendar. If you have a semester break and want to spend it writing Java that someone experienced actually reviews, this is that internship.
The starter project
You will build a notification preferences service from an empty repository: a small Spring Boot application storing per-user channel settings, exposing them over REST, and publishing an event whenever someone opts out of a channel. Our product team uses it once it is finished, and it is scoped small enough that you can complete it in eight weeks without a heroic final fortnight.
How we will teach you
A weekly one-on-one with a backend engineer, a code review on every pull request, and a design document you draft and we mark up before any implementation begins. You will use Maven, Java 17, JPA against MySQL, and JUnit. Nobody expects you to know all four on day one.
Who this is for
Final-year students and recent graduates only, with no professional experience assumed. You should have finished at least one Java project of your own, even a modest one, and be able to work on your own for long stretches without someone checking in.
Responsibilities
- Build a notification preferences service starting from an empty repository
- Model per-user channel settings and expose them over a REST API
- Publish a change event whenever a user opts out of a channel
- Write the design document before writing the implementation
- Cover the service with JUnit tests and a README a stranger could follow
- Demo the finished service to the product team in your final week
Requirements
- Final-year student or recent graduate, no professional experience assumed
- At least one Java project of your own, however modest
- Basic understanding of relational databases and how tables relate
- Comfortable working independently for long stretches of the day
