Platform Engineering Intern (Docker + Kubernetes)

This role is open to applicants anywhere in the world, and it exists because our container tooling has grown faster than the people maintaining it. Across three months you will tidy the layer that sits between our developers and the Kubernetes cluster they deploy onto.

Projects on the table

Rewriting bloated Dockerfiles into multi stage builds that cut image size by more than half. Building a starter Helm chart a new internal service can adopt in an afternoon. Writing a small CLI that wraps kubectl so an engineer can tail logs from any environment without memorising namespaces. Adding image scanning so a vulnerable base image gets caught before it ships.

This is an unpaid, open source style internship. You keep your commits, your work lives publicly in our tooling repositories, and the hours are yours to arrange around study or another job. We ask for roughly fifteen hours a week and honesty about what you can deliver.

Requirements

You should already have run containers locally, know why a process should not run as root inside one, and be able to read a YAML manifest without flinching. Kubernetes experience is not assumed. Office hours run weekly on video with the platform lead, and every merged change gets a written review.
