React State Management Intern

Prop drilling seven levels deep, three competing sources of truth, and a Redux store nobody remembers adding. That is the current state of our candidate portal, and untangling it is what you will spend three months doing.

Your brief

You will map the existing data flow, then move server data out of Redux and into TanStack Query where it belongs, leaving only genuine client state behind. Expect to work through cache invalidation rules, optimistic updates on the job application form, and a small Zustand store for the handful of UI preferences that survive the cleanup. Every significant decision gets written up in a short architecture note, so the next person understands why the code looks the way it does.

Terms and support

This position is unpaid and fully remote within India, with a schedule flexible enough to fit around final semester classes. In exchange you get a genuinely interesting refactor instead of ticket cleanup, a mentor who has run this exact migration twice before, and code review that treats you as an engineer rather than a student. It suits you if you have built a React project big enough to have already felt the pain of state living in the wrong place.
