Analytics Engineering Internship - Data Modelling with dbt

By the end of six months you will have designed and shipped a star schema the whole company queries, which is not something most people can say about an internship.
The problem
Applications, employers, job posts and email events currently live in four places nobody has properly joined. Analysts stitch them together by hand, differently every time. You will be the person who models this properly in dbt, from the staging layer through to the marts Metabase reads.
What you will actually build
Dimensional models for employers, candidates and job postings, with slowly changing dimension handling on the employer table because plans and company sizes do change. Incremental models over the email event stream, which is the largest table we have. Tests, documentation and a lineage graph a new joiner can read on day one.
Who this suits
Final year students and fresh graduates who already enjoy SQL and want to go deeper than dashboards. You should be able to explain a left join to somebody who does not code, and be interested in the difference between a fact and a dimension before anyone pays you to care. Hyderabad based and hybrid, with two fixed office days each week.
Responsibilities
- Design dimensional models for employers, candidates and job postings
- Handle slowly changing dimensions on the employer table as plans and headcounts move
- Build incremental dbt models over the email event stream, our largest table
- Write tests and documentation so the lineage graph is readable by a new joiner
- Refactor legacy analyst queries onto the new marts and retire the old ones
- Work with backend engineers on source schema changes before they land
- Present your modelling decisions at the fortnightly data design review
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate with strong SQL
- Understands primary keys, joins and table grain well enough to argue about them
- Genuine interest in data warehousing concepts, even if only from reading
- Based in Hyderabad or able to relocate for a hybrid schedule
- Available for the full six months
