Python Data Science Intern

By the time you finish
Three months from your start date you should be able to point at a live recommendation panel on MailerMen and say that the ranking behind it is yours. That is the shape of this internship. It is fully remote within India, with the team syncing at 10am on a short video call every weekday.
The work itself
You begin with a messy export of two years of application data, roughly 1.4 million rows, and figure out what actually predicts whether a candidate finishes an application. Feature engineering in pandas comes first, then a baseline model, then the unglamorous part where you discover your training set leaks. You will write the scoring script, package it behind a small FastAPI endpoint, and watch precision at five once real candidates are seeing the output.
What we care about
Curiosity beats credentials here. If you have built anything in Python outside coursework, a scraper, a Kaggle notebook, a Telegram bot, tell us about it. You do not need work experience. You do need the honesty to say when a model is not working, because a quietly broken recommender is worse than no recommender at all.
Responsibilities
- Clean and explore a two year export of candidate application data using pandas
- Engineer features that predict application completion and job relevance
- Train and evaluate baseline ranking models with scikit-learn
- Write a scoring script and expose it through a small FastAPI service
- Track precision and recall of live recommendations and report on them weekly
- Document data assumptions and known leakage risks for the rest of the team
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate with coursework in statistics, machine learning or computer science
- Confident with Python, pandas and NumPy
- Understanding of train test splits, overfitting and basic evaluation metrics
- A personal or academic project you can walk us through in detail
- Reliable internet and availability for a daily morning standup
