MailerMen's campaign delivery service pushes several million emails a week, and its Express API is the thing every other team calls. Over three months you sit inside that team and take ownership of a slice of it: the template rendering endpoints, the per account rate limit middleware, and the audit log that records who changed which campaign.
Mondays start with a short design chat where you sketch a route contract before writing a line of it. You then implement it, write Jest tests around the happy path and the two failure modes nobody remembers, and open a pull request that a senior backend engineer reads line by line. Expect blunt feedback, and expect to argue back when you disagree.
You will have shipped at least four endpoints to production, debugged a real N+1 query against a PostgreSQL table holding a few hundred thousand rows, and learned to read a flame graph without panicking. Two days a week you work from the Bengaluru office and the rest from wherever suits you. No prior job experience is expected. Curiosity about how a request actually travels through a server is.
MailerMen runs a verified job board covering startup and product roles across twelve markets, and takes on interns across engineering, data, design and marketing to build it.
