Cloud Infrastructure Intern (AWS + Terraform)

MailerMen runs its email delivery API across three AWS regions, and almost none of that is clicked together by hand. Over six months you will work inside the Terraform codebase, starting with small modules such as S3 buckets, IAM roles and security groups, then moving up to the VPC and RDS stacks carrying production traffic.
What you will be building
Your first project is a reusable Terraform module for staging environments, so a fresh sandbox comes up with one command instead of half a day of console clicking. After that you will help retire our older CloudFormation templates, wire drift detection into the nightly pipeline, and tag every resource so the finance team can finally read the bill line by line.
Who fits here
You should be comfortable in a Linux shell, know what a subnet and a load balancer actually do, and have poked at AWS on a free tier account. Terraform experience is welcome but we will teach it properly. Curiosity about why an apply failed matters far more than already knowing the answer.
How you will be supported
You sit with the platform team three days a week in the Koramangala office. Every change goes through review, you will shadow production incidents in a read only capacity, and you finish with infrastructure code running under real load.
Responsibilities
- Write and review Terraform modules for S3 buckets, IAM roles and security groups used by staging environments
- Help migrate legacy CloudFormation stacks into the main Terraform codebase without downtime
- Add drift detection to the nightly pipeline and triage what it reports each morning
- Apply a consistent resource tagging scheme so AWS spend can be attributed to a team
- Document each module in the internal infrastructure handbook with a working example
- Shadow production incidents in a read only capacity and take notes for the postmortem
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate in any engineering or computer science stream
- Comfortable navigating a Linux shell and editing files over SSH
- Understands core networking ideas such as subnets, ports and load balancing
- Has experimented with an AWS free tier account or a similar cloud sandbox
- Able to attend the Bengaluru office three days a week
