Open Source Web Development Intern

We maintain three small open source packages that fell out of building this job board: a lightweight form validation helper, a set of accessible interface primitives, and a CLI that generates sitemap entries. They have real users and a growing pile of unanswered issues.
The contribution track
This three month programme is open to students anywhere in the world and runs entirely in public. You will triage incoming issues, reproduce reported bugs, write the failing test, then send the fix. Later you take on a feature of your own, most likely the internationalisation support people keep asking for. Every discussion happens on GitHub, in English, where anyone can read it.
Terms and timezones
The programme is unpaid and we say so at the top rather than burying it. It exists for people who want maintainer level experience and a public commit history. Fifteen hours a week is enough. Reviews land within two working days wherever you are, and weekly office hours are recorded for anyone who cannot make the call.
The end state
A merged pull request trail anyone can inspect, real familiarity with semantic versioning and changelogs, and the slightly strange experience of a stranger thanking you for something you wrote.
Responsibilities
- Triage incoming GitHub issues and reproduce reported bugs with minimal test cases
- Write a failing test before fixing any defect in the form validation package
- Contribute internationalisation support to the accessible interface primitives
- Review documentation pull requests submitted by other community contributors
- Keep changelogs accurate and follow semantic versioning on every release
- Join weekly office hours and summarise decisions back into the issue thread
Requirements
- Student or recent graduate anywhere in the world, no employment history required
- Reads and writes English well enough to debate technical tradeoffs in public
- Familiar with Git branching and opening a pull request from a fork
- Around fifteen hours a week available for three months
- Comfortable receiving code review where everyone can see it
