Site Reliability Engineering Intern

Uptime is a feature our customers pay for, and this six month internship puts you close to the machinery that protects it. You join the SRE pod in Pune, working from the Baner office three days a week.
The work
You start by owning alerting hygiene. A good share of the pages our on call engineers receive are noise, and your job is to fix that with better Prometheus rules, honest thresholds and alerts that link straight to a runbook. From there you move into error budgets, helping define objectives for the send API and the webhook delivery service, then building the Grafana boards that put those numbers on the office screen.
Things you will touch
Prometheus, Grafana, Loki for log aggregation, Nginx access logs, and a growing pile of Bash and Python glue. You will sit in on blameless postmortems and write at least two of them yourself.
What makes someone good at this
A stubborn interest in why systems break. You need Linux fundamentals, an understanding of what each class of HTTP status code implies, and the patience to read a graph carefully before forming an opinion. Final year students and recent graduates are exactly who we want. You leave with real operational judgement, which is rarer than any certificate.
Responsibilities
- Audit existing Prometheus alert rules and rewrite the ones that page without cause
- Define service level objectives for the send API and the webhook delivery service
- Build Grafana dashboards that show error budget burn in plain language
- Aggregate application logs into Loki with labels that make searching fast
- Join blameless postmortems and author at least two incident write ups yourself
- Automate the weekly reliability report reviewed by engineering leadership
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate, no professional experience required
- Solid Linux fundamentals including processes, systemd units and log locations
- Understands HTTP status codes and what each class implies about a failure
- Can read a time series graph and describe what changed and when
- Available for a hybrid schedule from the Pune office
