Our marketing site, our docs and the app dashboard all sit behind the same reverse proxy, and that configuration file has been edited by nine different people over two years. Cleaning it up is your first task in this two month remote internship.
You will restructure the Nginx configuration into readable per service blocks, move TLS renewal onto an automated certbot job, and add sensible caching headers so static assets stop hitting the origin for every visitor. Once that is stable you will stand up a staging proxy mirroring production, so the next person who edits a config can test it before shipping it. Short internships only work when the scope is clear, so you and your mentor agree the deliverables in week one and check them off together at a fifteen minute daily standup.
Comfort with the command line, basic HTTP knowledge, and curiosity about what actually happens between a browser request and a response. Anyone graduating this year or last is welcome, and prior jobs are not part of the criteria. You leave with a configuration repository you can point at in an interview, plus a real understanding of how traffic reaches an application and where it slows down.
MailerMen runs a verified job board covering startup and product roles across twelve markets, and takes on interns across engineering, data, design and marketing to build it.
