What the platform team runs
Every job application submitted on MailerMen passes through a small cluster of ASP.NET Core services that validate the payload, deduplicate repeat applicants and write a record into SQL Server. That pipeline absorbs bursts of a few thousand submissions on Monday mornings, and it is where you will spend this six month internship.
Your first weeks
You begin by shadowing the on call rotation and fixing small defects in the application intake controller, purely so the codebase stops feeling foreign. By week four you should be shipping endpoints yourself, with a senior engineer reading every pull request line by line.
The bigger piece
Waiting for you after that is a rewrite of the employer notification service, moving it off a nightly cron job and onto a hosted background worker with proper retry semantics. You will design the retry table, write the Entity Framework Core migrations and prove the behaviour with xUnit tests before it ever touches production traffic.
You do not need production C# behind you. You need curiosity about why a request is slow, enough comfort to read a stack trace without panicking, and the willingness to ask questions in a room full of people who have been doing this longer than you have.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain REST endpoints in the application intake service using ASP.NET Core controllers and minimal APIs
- Write Entity Framework Core migrations and review the generated SQL before it reaches SQL Server
- Replace the nightly employer notification cron with a hosted background worker that supports retries
- Cover new code with xUnit tests, including the failure paths, before requesting review
- Investigate slow queries flagged by the weekly performance report and propose index changes
- Join the daily standup and the fortnightly architecture review with the platform team
- Keep the service README accurate as endpoints change
Requirements
- Final year student or recent graduate in computer science, IT or a related branch
- Working knowledge of C# syntax, classes, interfaces and async await
- Able to write basic SQL joins and read an execution plan with some guidance
- Comfortable with Git branching, pull requests and responding to review comments
- Available to work from our Bengaluru office three days a week
