C# Developer Intern (Entity Framework Core)

Why this role exists
Our application database has grown past forty tables, and several of the older Entity Framework queries were written before anyone in the room thought about N+1 loads. Across the three months of this internship, working from our Pune office, you will hunt them down. Expect your first fortnight to go on reading execution plans in SQL Server, then rewriting the offending LINQ, adding the right projections, and proving the improvement with before and after timings.
Day to day
You will author EF Core migrations for new features, model the relationships for an upcoming employer billing table, and move a handful of raw ADO.NET queries into the ORM where that genuinely helps. There is also a staging data seeder that badly needs rebuilding so a fresh environment comes up in one command, and it is yours if you want it.
Who tends to do well here
Students who enjoy the puzzle of data more than the polish of a user interface. You need no professional experience at all. You do need to be comfortable writing C# without autocomplete doing your thinking, and you should be able to explain what a foreign key is to somebody who has never opened a database.
Responsibilities
- Profile slow LINQ queries and rewrite them to eliminate N+1 loads
- Author Entity Framework Core migrations for the new employer billing tables
- Read SQL Server execution plans and record before and after timings for each fix
- Rebuild the staging data seeder so a clean environment comes up in one command
- Move selected raw ADO.NET queries into the ORM where readability improves
- Pair with the data team on schema review for upcoming features
Requirements
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree that included database coursework
- Able to write C# collections and LINQ queries by hand
- Understands primary keys, foreign keys and joins well enough to explain them aloud
- Willing to work a hybrid schedule from our Pune office
- No prior industry experience expected or asked for
